I usually pack up all of my denim and pants at the beginning of the season once the temps stay in the 80s, but to be able to do that, I try to find cute, versatile dresses that will help me stay stylish but cool through the Summer. No matter where I have to go, I can always just throw on a fun dress and simple accessories to look polished and put together, and it just makes life (and getting dressed) so much easier. Wearing dresses in the Summer helps to tremendously cut down on how long it takes me to get ready and out the door, so when I find styles that I love, I live in them, and will even get them in multiple colors if available.

If you’re on the hunt for some new pieces to wear while it’s still blazing hot outside, here’s a little roundup of dresses (and a few handbags) that’ll help get you through the rest of the Summer.

We have a long way to go before we move past Covid-19, but many of us are (luckily) in a place where life is at least semi-normal again. Many of us are starting to go back to work and venturing out beyond getting our essentials (safely, of course), and with temps starting to warm up, switching over your wardrobe for Spring/Summer in the next few weeks is inevitable. If you live in Memphis, you know that you can wear those cute lounge wear sets that everyone is pushing only for so long before the humidity and heat do you in. There’s no need to go out and get a whole new wardrobe, however, I don’t see anything wrong with wanting to get a few new pieces that will allow you to look and feel cute. Even if you’re just going out on a coffee run, you can still get dressed. There are little things that we can do daily to maintain a sense of normalcy, and putting on clothes that we love is one of them.

If you’re in a place where you can update your wardrobe and itching to do a little retail therapy, I’ve rounded up a few warm weather pieces that will be essential this season.

Mother’s Day is this upcoming Sunday, May 10th, and while Memphis hasn’t gotten back to “business as usual”,  we have been given the green light for businesses and retailers to slowly begin opening back up this week, including Saddle Creek. It will be handled in phases and obviously safety will come first, but if you’re someone that won’t have time to order anything online for Mother’s Day but still want to give a gift that isn’t a gift card, you may be able to call ahead to order for curbside pickup or visit a retailer to get what you need to treat the special moms in your life.

Be sure to call or check ahead before visiting these shops, as each retailer will be operating under their own plan, and remember to be safe and practice social distancing while you shop. Mother’s Day may look a little different this year due to Covid-19, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t still celebrate the ones that you love.

My tip for Mother’s Day gifts this year are items that they can use to pamper themselves, that are cozy and comfortable for them to lounge around in, things for the home, or items that they may need to jhoosh up their everyday wardrobe.

Spring is finally on the horizon, and warmer weather means it is time to switch up your wardrobe and start incorporating brighter colors, softer, lighter fabrics, and statement making pieces. Fresh and flirty is the name of the game for Spring; on days when you don’t want to think too much about what to wear when getting dressed, you want to have pieces in your wardrobe that are versatile yet still effortless so that you always look put together no matter what you decide to wear. We still have a few more weeks before the season officially changes, but now’s the perfect time to get your Spring wardrobe together.

If you’re ready to get your closet in order (and indulge in a little retail therapy), here’s a round up of fresh + flirty styles for Spring.

Now that February is here, people are scouring the net and visiting their favorite spots trying to find the perfect Valentine’s Day gift for their significant other. This is the norm, but I’d be ignoring the pink elephant in the room if I didn’t speak on some of us getting distracted and buying things for ourselves too, lol. I mean, with so many specialty items and accessories floating around in store specifically for Valentine’s Day, you’d be crazy not to take advantage of it and find a great gift for yourself while shopping for your boo, right?? Right. Seriously, who doesn’t need some cute new PJs or fun earrings right now? Plus, your partner will appreciate how good you look when they see you in your new things (wink).

Being single on Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean you have to mope around the house feeling sad and crying into your chocolates all night. Embrace your singleness and flip this day to take some time out for yourself and enjoy who you are. If you’re unattached on this special day of luuuv, celebrate as a party of one or squad up with your fellow single gal pals and try the following:

  • Book a spa day. Take a half day at work and go get a facial, mani/pedi, massage, and whatever else is on your self-care list. You’ll feel like a luxurious, glowy goddess and be relaxed to the max once you’re done.
  • Have an adult sleepover (complete with wine, nibbles, a cheesy dance party + mini makeovers) with your other single girlfriends. Who cares that you may have work in the morning? You won’t feel alone, and it’ll remind you of your college years (minus the bad hangover).

friends

  • Enjoy a Rom-Com movie binge fest. I mean, this is why chick flicks were made, right? Crazy Stupid Love, The Holiday, How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Sixteen Candles and The Wedding Singer are classics that are cheesy but won’t have you all in your feelings. Rom-Coms not your thing? A SATC Marathon is a great alternative. Don’t forget the popcorn + candy!
  • Enjoy a special GNO. Not in love but still want to put on a hot outfit and go out? Grab your girls, get dressed up and pick a new cocktail bar or club to hit. Make a pact to keep it cool with the guys and just hang with your girls all night.

girlsnightout

  • Have a mini shopping spree at some of your favorite boutiques and stores. Stores will usually be having a sale because of the holiday, and if you’re solo shopping, you can do all in peace without rushing or fighting for a fitting room with your friends.
  • Have an ultimate pampering night in. Treat Yo’ self! Bring home some flowers, break out your favorite bubbles and bath salts and enjoy a little champagne and mood music while you chill in the tub.  Then, enjoy a delicious meal from one of your favorite restaurants (thanks Uber Eats!). Ending your evening this way means you can relax a little more at home and you don’t have to sit and watch those couples that look depressed as hell together while you eat (you KNOW you’ve seen them).

Whatever you do, have some fun and don’t let the holiday get you down. Besides, all Valentine’s Day candy will be 50% off the day after, so you’ll have something sweet to look forward to!

It’s hard to believe that Christmas is only a few days away, and while *20% of the population have knocked out all of their holiday shopping,  most of us will be out in the crazy crowds and hitting the malls from now til Christmas Eve.

Thankfully, you have the weekend to finish up all of your holiday shopping, so if you’re unsure of what to get the special people on your list, here’s a quick roundup of tried and true last minute gifts that anyone would love to receive.

It seems just yesterday we were counting down for Summer break, and now we’re officially in the first weeks of Fall. When the leaves start to change and a crispness comes in the air, I get excited. I flourish in all of the layers we can wear (and I’m all about building a better wardrobe), so it’s time to determine the look(s) I want to have, including the colors, fabrics and silhouettes that I think work well together this season.

How To Prep Your Wardrobe For Fall

First things first, though: before we add in anything new to our closet, we have to edit our closet, and I’m going to share a few tips that will help you prep your wardrobe for Fall. Once you have an idea of the look that you want during Fall ( I like to use Pinterest to create my own inspirational moodboards for this step), the really hard part begins: editing out your closet. Even if you don’t dislike everything in your wardrobe, this is the easiest way to help you seamlessly rework your looks.

How To Prep Your Wardrobe For Fall

Completely clear out your closet.
Take everything out. Doing this will allow you to truly see the space that you’re working with and reorganize things the way that you want.

Try everything on, editing by category.
Editing by category allows your try-on session to flow smoothly and quickly. Try on an item and ask yourself “would I buy this today?” If yes, keep it. If no, toss it. It doesn’t matter if it fits well or you found it on a great deal, if you couldn’t imagine yourself purchasing it now, let it go.

Compile your piles.
Once you’ve tried on everything, you should have 4 piles: what to keep, what to donate, what to toss, and what to sell. The keep pile is everything that’s going back into your closet. If you have anything that needs to be repaired or dry cleaned, pack it up now so that you can send it all off at the same time. The donate pile are items that are still in good condition, but you wouldn’t be able to sell. Take these to Goodwill or Salvation Army, or consider donating it to your local Dress for Success. The toss pile should be anything that is torn, has stains, or is seriously out of style, and your sell pile should be designer or higher-end mass retailer items (Anthropologie, Topshop, Banana Republic, Zara, etc.) and vintage pieces that are in great condition or only a few seasons old that you can take to a consignment shop or sell yourself online.

Once you’ve edited down what you already own (and you have a clearer idea of what items you will need this season), the fun part – shopping! – can begin. You’ve figured out your style, made room in your closet, and you can now shop with a lot more purpose!

The first day of Fall was September 23rd, and even though it’s still a little warm, that doesn’t mean we aren’t itching to break out some cozy knits and grab a Pumpkin Spice Latte #sobasic. If you live in the South, it won’t completely cool down til at least October, but you can still break out some of your favorite Fall fits to get you in the mood.

Fall Trends To Try Now

You might have to think “cooler” thoughts during the day so that you don’t overheat, but we all own a few pieces that we can wear now into early Fall.

Fall Trends To Try Now Fall Trends To Try Now

Gauzy Knits
Is anything better than a gauzy, lightweight sweater? Pair your favorite shorts with a cozy knit in a dreamy, autumnal hue for a look that’s perfect for brunchin’ with friends. Shorts, Sweater, Earrings: American Threads.

Fall Trends To Try Now Fall Trends To Try Now

Snakeskin Prints
Snakeskin prints are h-o-t for Fall, and you can make the fun trend more accessible(but still edgy) by rocking it in a mini skirt style with your favorite elevated tee and denim jacket. Jacket, Tee, Skirt, Jewelry: Indigo

Lightweight Trousers
Swap out your skinny denim for lightweight trousers that can easily take you from workwear to weekend warrior. A crotchet sweater works for casual Fridays, but pair with Chucks and a henley tee for an off-duty look. Sweater, Trousers: American Threads. Earrings, Bracelet: Kendra Scott

What are your must-have Fall pieces?

Sorority recruitment (also known as Rush Week) can be a little confusing when it comes to deciding what to wear because based on location, sorority house and the weather, the outfit possibilities are endless. You want to dress to stand out, but you also don’t want to look like you’re trying too hard (mixed signals, I know).

Sorority Rush Outfit Ideas

Each day of Rush will be different, and most likely, your instructions on what to wear will fall somewhere between something super generic, to specific you’ll wonder if they’re going to provide you with the outfit. As a rule of thumb, if you set looks aside that are elevated versions of what you wear you’ll do fine, but if you need a little guidance, these cute styles from Indigo and American Threads should give you some style inspo.

Casually Cute
The first few days of Rush are usually the most “casual”, but that doesn’t mean that you have to stick to denim. A cute patterned dress that can be dressed up or down with different shoes and accessories are a sweet option for these activities. Dress, necklace: American Threads.

Sweetly Detailed
Festivities that require you to step it up a notch call for a look that’s all about the details. You want to stand out, so a shift dress in a bold hue with statement neckline will help you do just that. Dress: Indigo, Earrings: Kendra Scott

All Out Glam
Cocktail attire doesn’t have to mean breaking out your go-to LBD (little black dress). Try a flirty frock with pleated details and sleek jewelry. You’ll live on the dance floor (seriously, how can you NOT want to twirl in this?), while channeling your inner Serena van der Woodsen. Dress, Earrings: Indigo
