What better way to spend your Saturday afternoon than with wine, shopping and cute pups? Saddle Creek’s “Pour & Explore” Event finally returned! Benefiting the Streetdog Foundation, a wonderful nonprofit organization that rescues and rehabilitates dogs from the streets of Memphis, it’s one of the center’s most anticipated events. The foundation is 100% volunteer supported, so being able to support it through events like this is such a cool way to give back.

If you missed out, you missed an awesome event! Saddle Creek has other events lined up throughout the year, so be sure to follow along on Facebook or Instagram to keep up!

Over the weekend I took an Effortless Entertaining cooking class at Sur La Table and it was so much fun! If you’re not familiar, Sur La Table offers a plethora of cooking classes throughout the week, and the options change both monthly and seasonally. With the holidays being upon us, I thought that it would be cool to learn some new recipes (while also being shown the proper way to cut and prepare certain foods so that I don’t hurt myself in the kitchen, haha), and this was the perfect class to do that.

Sur La Table Saddle Creek Cooking Class

Our menu for the day:

  • Baked Brie En Croute with Apricot Jam
  • Hearty Winter Green and Fennel Salad with Parmesan and White Balsamic Vinaigrette
  • Herb Crusted Pork Loin with Apple Cider Mustard Sauce
  • Maple Crème Brûlée with Eggland’s Best Eggs

The purpose of these classes is to teach families across the country how to make delicious meals with better-for-you-ingredients at home. I’ve never done a full on cooking class like this, and while I was initially intimidated when I arrived (my Sister-In-Law Monica joined me), that all went out of the window once our instructor began. Chef Aaron made sure to explain to us prep procedures, how to hold our knives (if you ever find yourself “sawing” while cutting, you need a better knife!), and gave hands on help if we ever found ourselves confused.

Sur La Table Saddle Creek Cooking Class

Chef Aaron took his time going through the steps while managing to keep us on track with cooking. We were newbies, but there were other people in the class that you could tell were really experienced in the kitchen, so it was fun to watch everyone interact and have fun while preparing their dishes.

All of the ingredients that we used were really fresh, so it smelled AH-MAZING! We all keep spices at home, but my main takeaway from the class is if you can get fresh herbs, use them! The recipes were relatively easy to follow, and the ingredient list was made up of herbs, meats, produce and cheeses that you might already have at home or can find at your local grocery store (no specialty shop needed).

I love a fresh salad, and while this one was simple and had very few ingredients, the flavors make a serious impact when they all come together.

The longest amount of prep went to our Pork Tenderloin, so while we waited for it to cook those last few minutes, we chatted with each other and went through the store; because we all prepared the same dish, the items were all mixed together so you weren’t sure if you were eating your own food or what someone else prepared (though I was able to pick out our tenderloin because we were given some extra mustard for our coating and it was the “special kind” lol).

Voila!

Everything tasted delicious! We picked up so many seasoning tips throughout the class, and they can actually be used on different types of food. We were also given the recipes to what we made so that we can recreate our meal at home. I’m so glad that we were able to take this class and we’re already planning to take another one in the future!

After a busy day of errands and a photoshoot project, I was able to stop by Saddle Creek’s Pour & Explore Event, a special fundraising event that let’s attendees sample wines from all over the world while enjoying live music, shopping deals at participating retailers, and other cool fun.

The temps have finally warmed up so it was nice out; I ran into a few of my blogger friends while there, and I had a chance top pop into the new Brahmin store that just opened. Did you know that there’s a collection there that’s exclusive to Memphis?

I got there a little late because of the project that I’m working on so I wasn’t able to make it to all of the stores that were participating, but I was still able to sample some delicious wine and do a little shopping. I love events like this because it’s a simple, easy way to enjoy the weather while also giving back to an organization in need. Plus, who doesn’t love to shop? Ha!

So happy I got to see my friend Kristina at Madewell!

Join Sip & Script for a Night of Learning Calligraphy!

Join us at Kendra Scott for a festive workshop of spooky fun and pretty lettering for beginners! Whether you’re a stationery nerd, DIY Bride-to-be, or just a crafty individual, in this workshop you’ll be learning an introduction to modern calligraphy with a pointed dip pen and ink. We will cover all the basics and get you ready to add those special lettered details to all your spooky spreads – think lettered pumpkins at your front door, on your bar cart, as a Halloween party hostess gift or special occasion gift!

Class includes 1.5 hours of instruction and demonstration, our beginner’s calligraphy kit (two nibs, black ink pot, 2 letter guides, tracing paper and straight pen holder), and all materials to write on. Everything is yours to keep at the end of the workshop! Additionally, we will be lettering on faux pumpkins at the end of our class time!

Feel free to come early, grab your seat, and purchase any Kendra Scott Jewelry. All attendees will receive 20% off of your Kendra Scott purchase! Class will start promptly at 6 pm!

Class Expectations: Yes, lefties are welcome too! This class is encouraged for someone who has never taken a calligraphy class before. We teach the basics and our expectation for you is to have ink flowing through your nib with enough confidence to be able to practice way beyond class. We love using tracing paper with our guides to help you build muscle memory and develop your own style! If you have tried calligraphy out before, this class will be a great refresher and hopefully a chance to try some new supplies from our beginner kit that will re-introduce you to this lovely form of art!

A note on bringing guests 16 and under: We love to share this passion with kids. You are welcome to get a ticket for your child as long as you are comfortable with people around them having a drink or two. We do ask that anyone under the age of 16 is to be accompanied by a ticketed adult at all times.
